The challenge
Multi-hole orifices change the pressure and velocity fields used in differential-pressure flow measurement. Their numerical representation needs experimental verification.
Contribution
The study examined a four-hole plate with module m = 0.25 in a pipe with an internal diameter of 50 mm, combining CFD and laboratory measurements.
Approach
Realizable k–ε and k–ω BSL turbulence models were compared using static-pressure distributions and velocity fields. Experiments covered 0.167–0.686 dm³/s and Reynolds numbers of 4,200–19,000.
Results
The comparison assessed deviations between calculated and measured pressures and clarified the influence of hole arrangement on pressure loss and flow behavior. The original project summary describes δ as remaining below 1.82% for the realizable k–ε model and −1.54% for the k–ω BSL model; these values retain the source’s sign convention.
